As our beautiful summer does its best to hold off fall it is easy to forget that the season began with a terrible bang (more accurately, several bangs) with the shootings at Café Racer Espresso in the U District. While I didn’t know any of the victims, I had seen Joe Albanese & Drew Keriakedes perform, we had mutual friends and that was close enough to effect me.
As the details of events began to emerge in the following days I was struck by the actions of one of the shooting’s survivor’s Mr.
Just completed this training with the Stewards of Children. It is an adult focused child sexual abuse prevention program, empirically proven effective in prevention. It has been shown to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change participants child-protective behaviors.
I recommend it for all who work with children, live in a community with children, have children, or have been children. lol.

At my school every year the fifth grade goes to France for a week or two. So we have to fundraise some money for the trip by selling pastries every friday from a french baker in Seattle (Le Panier) at the entrance of my school.
In an article written by Education Week discusses the positive attributes of service learning; “Service learning can teach students and teachers a great deal. Although the final product is the culminating event that everyone works hard to achieve, service learning is also about the process from beginning to end. The whole experience can be a great learning experience, especially when students are a part of the decision making.” (DeWitt, 2012)

Hinck and Brandell’s research states that “ ‘...in a study of more than 2,000 K-12 students from 24 schools, University of Wisconsin researchers found improved student performance resulted from service learning experiences. - Always wear a helmet and make sure it fits comfortably and does not block your vision or hearing.
- Wear shoes that fit properly and cover your feet completely.
- Protect yourself with wrist braces, elbow/knee pads and gloves.
- Never ride on busy streets.
- Never hitch a ride with a car, truck, or moving vehicle.
- Look over your play area for hazards like rocks, gravel, holes, or bumps.
- If you lose balance, try to crouch and roll instead of sticking your hands out to stop your fall.

Friends, affirmative action officers, human resource professionals and women's groups can offer information, advice and support, but only you can decide what is right for you.
