When I walked into the Mercer Island Thrift Shop for the first time I was ready to tackle my volunteer shift head-on. I got to go into the back of the shop, which was bigger than I first thought. Living Hero #1 – My Mom My first living hero is my mother. She teaches me in a way that no schoolteacher ever could. She doesn’t teach me math, history, or physics, but instead she teaches me loyalty, honesty, and how to be peaceful.
